  • Tropical Storm named CRISTOBAL formed over the Gulf of Mexico on 1 June and started moving across the Bay of Campeche close to the south-eastern coast of Mexico. On 3 June its centre was located approximately 72 km north-west of Ciudad del Carmen (Campeche State), with maximum sustained winds of 83 km/h (tropical storm).
  • CRISTOBAL will continue passing along the Bay of Campeche of Mexico and to move in north direction over the Gulf of Mexico toward the southern States of USA on 6 June.
  • For the next 24 hours, heavy rain and strong wind are forecast over southern and south-eastern States, particularly Campeche, Quintana Roo and Yucatan. Storm surge is expected along the coast of Campeche, Tabasco, Quintana Roo, Veracruz and Yucatan. Moderate to heavy rain is also expected across Guatemala and Belize.
  • According to NOAA, a tropical storm warning is in effect for the coastal area of southeastern Mexico.
  • In the same area, after the passage of Tropical Storm AMANDA on 30-31 May, the number of fatalities has increased to at least 23 people, of which 16 in El Salvador, 5 in Honduras, and 2 in Guatemala. The total amount of those affected in the aforementioned countries are approximately 150,000. Humanitarian assistance has been delivered to the local population, and the affected countries continue to face the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as by the start of the rainy season in Central America.

  • Tropical Storm CRISTOBAL made landfall in west of Ciudad del Carmen (Campeche State, eastern Mexico) on 3 June. On 4 June at 3.00 UTC, its centre was located approximately 40 km south of of Ciudad del Carmen, with maximum sustained winds of 75 km/h.
  • According to media, one person died in Chiapas State, more than 200 houses and 3 hospitals were damaged across Campeche, Quintana Roo, Yucatan, Tabasco, and Chiapas States. In addition, at least 619 people, of which 508 in Campeche, were evacuated. Several landslides were reported in Chiapas, and 27 communication routes were damaged across the affected States.
  • Over the next 24 hours, CRISTOBAL will move over east Campeche, weakening to a tropical depression, with maximum sustained winds between 55-65 km/h. On 5 June, CRISTOBAL is expected to enter the south Gulf of Mexico. 
  • On 4-5 June, heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong wind are forecast over Chiapas, Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatan, and Quintana Roo.

  • Tropical Storm CRISTOBAL was downgraded to a tropical depression, as it moves east-northeast over the Yucatan Peninsula. On 5 June at 3.00 UTC, its centre was located around the Mexico-Guatemala border, approximately 95 km south-east of Escarcega City (Campeche State, south-east Mexico), with maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h.
  • CRISTOBAL is currently causing heavy rain, which triggers flooding and landslies across south Mexico and parts of El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras, already affected by the passage of tropical storm AMANDA on 30-31 May.
  • CRISTOBAL is expected to move northwards over the Yucatan Peninsula as a tropical depression with maximum sustained winds up to 55 km/h. Then, it is forecast to enter the southern Gulf of Mexico on 6 June, and move towards south USA.
  • Over the next 24 hours, moderate to heavy rain is forecast over southern Mexico, parts of Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador, and Honduras.

  • Tropical Storm CRISTOBAL made landfall in Louisiana on 7 June, and moved northwards, passing over New Orleans City. On 8 June at 3.00 UTC, its centre was located 30 km north of New Orleans, with maximum sustained winds of 75 km/h.
  • Power outages were reported across New Orleans area, several roads and houses were flooded along Louisiana coast. Mandatory evacuation orders have been issued for areas of Terrebonne, Plaquemines, and Lafourche Parishes. An emergency state was declared in Louisiana on 7 June.
  • Over the next 24 hours, CRISTOBAL is expected to downgrade to a tropical depression, as it moves north, over eastern Louisiana and western Mississippi States, with maximum sustained wind between 46-56 km/h.
  • A tropical storm warning is in effect for coastal Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and western Florida, and storm surge warnings have been issued for coastal areas from Mississippi River Delta (Louisiana) to Ocean Springs City (Mississippi).
  • On 8-9 June, heavy rain and thunderstorms are forecast over south-eastern States.

  • Tropical storm CRISTOBAL was downgraded to a tropical depression, as it moves north across central Arkansas. On 9 June at 3.00 UTC, its centre was located near Little Rock, with maximum sustained winds of 45 km/h.
  • Heavy rain, floods and storm surge have been affecting the areas along the Gulf Coast from southeastern Louisiana eastward to Florida Panhandle. Several tornadoes were reported in Florida.
  • Over the next 48 hours, CRISTOBAL is forecast to move further north, reaching the Great Lakes Region, as it strengthens.
  • A strong wind warning is in effect for Lake Michigan, and a flash flood watch has been issued for areas along the Mississippi Valley. Rainfall is forecast over most of east USA on 9-11 June.
