  • Heavy rain continues to affect nine provinces of southern Thailand and five states of Peninsular Malaysia, causing floods, casualties and damage. 
  • In Thailand, according to media, four people died (three in Narathiwat province and one in Songkhla province). More than 55,000 people have been affected across the provinces of Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Trang, Phatthalung, Satun, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat. The hardest hit areas were Narathiwat, Nakhon Si Thammarat and Songkhla provinces. The government is expediting the damage assessment. Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office provided boats to the municipality to facilitate the helping of flood victims.
  • In Peninsular Malaysia, following widespread floods that are hitting the states of Johor, Kelantan, Pahang, Perak, and Terengganu, the number of fatalities reached five people. More than 63,000 people have been displaced and most of them were evacuated in 458 evacuation centres (ASEAN Disaster Information Network - ADINet).
  • For the next 24 hours, moderate rain is expected over southern Thailand while heavy, very heavy rainfall is forecast across north-eastern Malaysia.
Peninsular Malaysia, Late December 2022Particularly heavy rain fell in parts of Peninsular Malaysia from 17 December 2022. Besut in Terengganu state saw more than 700 mm in 24 hours to 18 December. As of 20 December, NADMA reported 1 fatality in Besut in Terengganu, 1 in Pasir Mas and 3 in Tumpat in Kelantan.
