  • An earthquake of 5.6 M at a depth of 25 km occurred in the far north-western Nepal on 24 January at 8:58 UTC (14:43 local time). The epicentre was located approximately 12 km north-east of Martadi Town (the main town of the mountainous Bajura District, northern Sudurpashchim Pradesh Province, also named Province No. 7) and 75 km east of the border with Uttarakhand State (India).
  • USGS PAGER estimates that up to 55,000 people were exposed to moderate shaking.
  • Media report, as of 25 January, one fatality in the area of Gaumul village (around 8 km west of Martadi town). In addition, two people have been injured and around 42 houses damaged (of which three collapsed) across the Bajura District, particularly in the villages of Bagura, and Tajakot Humla.
  • Rescue and recovery operations are currently ongoing by local authorities and the Nepali army.
